What is Jawline Contouring?

If your face has lost volume and jowls are prevalent, then adding back the volume with dermal fillers, or lifting the cheeks with fillers, can also give you back some sharpness to the jawline.

Jawline Contouring is a cosmetic procedure that involves using dermal fillers or surgical intervention to improve the shape of your jawline. The goal is to reduce the appearance of a double chin and make the jaw appear more defined.

This can be done nonsurgically through the use of dermal fillers and/or BOTOX to the masseter muscles or surgically through shaving or augmenting the angles of the jaw and chin to help slim your face.

Who is a Good Candidate for Jawline Contouring?

At Landford Plastic Surgery, we have found that good candidates for Jawline Contouring share some of the following characteristics:

  • Desire to increase definition in the jawline and increase facial balance.
  • Have mild or moderate jowls. Patients with excessive jowls may require other surgical approaches such as a facelift or neck lift to redrape the tissue
  • Maintain realistic expectations for the results of their procedure

How Much Does Jawline Contouring Cost in Washington DC & Baltimore?

The cost of Jawline Contouring in Washington DC & Baltimore depends on your specific treatment plan. For example, non-surgical Jawline Contouring pricing will vary based on how many injections are needed at each appointment to achieve and maintain your results, whereas the price of surgical Jawline Contouring is affected by the extent of your procedure and whether you choose to combine it with additional treatments.

The best way to find out how much your experience will be is to come in for a consultation with Dr. Landford and allow her to create your treatment plan. Once this is made, our Patient Coordinator will be able to show you a breakdown of your treatment.

  • Stop smoking for 6 weeks before your treatment

What are the Benefits of Jawline Contouring?

Among the benefits of Jawline Contouring that Dr. Landford and her team have seen include:

  • Balanced facial features
  • Improvement in a recessed chin
  • Increased volume and definition
  • Non-surgical improvement in feminine, masculine, or youthful facial profile
  • Reduction of jowl appearance

What are the Steps of Jawline Contouring?

Before your procedure, Dr. Landford will review your treatment plan so that you both understand what will happen during the procedure. You will be numbed with either local anesthesia or a cold compress. Below we have detailed what to expect depending on your style of treatment.

This outpatient procedure should be relatively quick depending on what you are having done, but traditionally takes between 20 to 60 minutes.

Techniques for Jawline Contouring

Depending on what your personal needs are, Dr. Landford can use additional techniques to help you have a better jawline.

Submental Liposuction for Jawline Contouring

For patients who prefer a one-time treatment, Dr. Landford can perform surgical Jawline Contouring with Submental Liposuction. Submental Liposuction, or Neck Liposuction, is an effective way for patients with healthy skin elasticity to eliminate a double chin and improve facial contours for long-lasting results.

Your Submental Lipo surgery will begin with anesthesia. Then, one or two small incisions will be made either behind the ears or under the chin. A liposuction cannula will be used to extract excess fat from the area to reshape the jawline.

Surgical Jawline Contouring with Lipo requires some downtime to promote healing and optimal results. Dr. Landford may have you wear a specialized chin strap for the first few days after your surgery. Any post-operative swelling and bruising will subside within a week or two.

V-Line Surgery

For some patients, the issue may be more related to the actual width of the jaw bone, called the mandible. If this is your situation, Dr. Landford uses this technique to narrow the jaw bone in a very short procedure. Women with a wide jaw can look masculine and it can throw off the symmetry of the whole face. A slender V-line (the angle of the jawbone by the ears to the tip of your chin) can provide you with a balanced and more feminine appearance.

A V-line jaw reduction surgery is great for anyone who wants to narrow their jawline.

Non-Surgical Jawline Contouring with Fillers

For patients who want to restore a youthful jawline without the inconvenience of a recovery period, Non-Surgical Jawline Contouring with fillers can be a great option. Dermal fillers can be injected by Dr. Landford to improve jawline definition by adding volume to hollow areas. This sculpts the chin to best complement your facial features.

Dr. Landford often recommends hyaluronic-acid-based fillers for Jawline Contouring. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are very popular for a variety of facial enhancements, including Jawline Contouring.

The recovery time when using fillers is typically fairly quick, usually taking only a day, with immediate results that can last up to a year.

Neuromodulators for Non-Surgical Jawline Contouring

If your Jawline Contouring goals include achieving a slimmer, more oval-shaped jawline, Dr. Landford may recommend an injectable neuromodulator like BOTOX. BOTOX can be injected to block nerve signals to the masseter muscle, which is the muscle involved with chewing. An overused masseter muscle can give the jaw a square shape that disrupts facial harmony. When injected with a neurotoxin, like BOTOX or Dysport, the muscle shrinks or atrophies, which causes the overall facial width to narrow and gives the posterior portion of the jaw a more slender appearance.

Neuromodulator results can be noticeable within five days after your appointment, though it may take up to two weeks for full results to appear. Generally, you can maintain your desired look with Botox by having this non-surgical treatment every three to six months.

Where are the Incisions and Scars for Jawline Contouring?

If you require any incisions during your treatment, they will be made in inconspicuous locations that are well hidden in the contours of your face. Most patients can treat their weak jawline with fillers, which leave no long-lasting marks.

Jawline Contouring Recovery

After your surgery, we will keep you in our recovery room to ensure that you have no complications from the anesthesia or procedure. Once Dr. Landford releases you, you will be able to return home to recover in comfort.

Your recovery period will vary depending on which procedure is performed. The downtime may vary between a day and a week depending on the procedure. There will be some degree of post-surgical swelling and bruising, but this will fade in time. You should expect to take some time off from work, as it will be vital to care for incisions as advised.

After a successful recovery process following Jawline Contouring surgery, patients will notice a chiseled jawline and a slimmer and more youthful face.
