Neck & Chin Liposuction

In Washington D.C. &. Maryland

Neck & Chin Liposuction is designed to permanently remove fatty tissue from your cheeks, chin, and neck. This excess neck fat can create an aged appearance beyond their years, so when Dr. Wilmina Landford removes it through either Liposuction or Lipectomy (cutting out fat), it can rejuvenate a patient’s face, especially when paired with a traditional Facelift or Neck Lift.

What is Neck & Chin Liposuction?

Neck and chin liposuction (also called Cervico neck and chin liposuction) is a common and popular elective cosmetic procedure that removes undesirable subcutaneous fat from specific areas of the face that do not respond to diet and exercise.

We like to remind our patients that this is not an obesity treatment. If you happen to gain weight after your procedure, this new fat will be deposited in areas that have not been treated. If necessary, neck & chin liposuction can be repeated; however, to maintain the safety of the procedure, there is a limit on how much can be performed in one session.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Neck & Chin Liposuction Procedure?

A good candidate for neck & chin Liposuction in Washington DC or Maryland will be someone with the following characteristics:

    • Currently at their desired weight
    • Has good skin elasticity
    • Is in overall good health
    • Keeps a positive attitude throughout the consultation, procedure, and recovery
    • Maintains realistic expectations regarding the procedure results

Since Liposuction carries a greater risk for patients with medical problems (e.g., diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation, etc.) or those who have recently had surgery near the area to be contoured, we encourage you to be fully transparent with your chronic conditions during the consultation. If you have any questions or hesitations, please discuss them with Dr. Landford during your neck and chin Liposuction consultation.

Neck & Chin Liposuction Risks & Safety

Neck & chin liposuction has some risks and side effects associated with the procedure. Patients are encouraged to learn more about them. Some include:

    • Anesthesia reactions
    • Bleeding
    • Contour irregularities
    • Fat embolism
    • Fluid buildup
    • Kidney and/or heart problems
    • Infection
    • Internal puncture
    • Lidocaine toxicity
    • Numbness

What Are the Steps of Neck & Chin Liposuction?

Neck and chin liposuction is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Dr. Landford will make discreet incisions a little shorter than 1/2 inches along your face (under your chin and sometimes behind the ear lobe) or your neck. She will then insert a cannula (very small tube) attached to a suction machine into the incision. The cannula is then gently pushed and pulled through the fat layer in your face to break up the fat cells and suction them out.

The procedure may take an hour or more, depending on the areas of focus.

Where are the Incisions and Scars for Neck & Chin Liposuction?

Liposuction requires tiny incisions about ½ inches in length, typically made under your chin or behind the ear lobe. As you heal, the scar will mature. It may be red and raised during the first 8 – 12 weeks. Over 6 – 12 months, any visible scars will become pale, flat, and soften out.

Neck & Chin Liposuction Recovery

After your surgery, you will be monitored in our recovery room as you come out of sedation. Once you are released, you will be able to return home and recover in peace. You may experience some numbness, burning, and tingling around the incision sites. These symptoms are almost always temporary.

The results of liposuction are permanent. If you were to gain a large amount of weight, depending on your skin elasticity, you might notice rippling in the treated areas.
